CRIN warmly welcomes a new President following our September 18 Annual General Meeting. Please join us in congratulating Scott Volk on his appointment as President.
Scott is an accomplished energy professional and innovation leader with over 23 years of technical, strategic, and governance experience across Canada’s oil and gas industry.
Scott currently serves as Director of Emissions & Innovation at Tourmaline Oil Corp., where he leads the emissions and innovations teams responsible for developing and executing efforts to reduce emissions and advance technology solutions. His portfolio spans regulatory compliance, carbon capture, certified natural gas, alternative fuels, government engagement, and new venture assessments.
He was instrumental in Tourmaline’s role in launching the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre, a collaboration between Tourmaline, the University of Calgary and NGIF, supporting innovation in methane detection and abatement through live field testing.
Scott contributes to Canada’s broader energy innovation ecosystem through a variety of leadership roles. He is widely recognized for his ability to translate complex technical challenges into actionable strategies and collaborative solutions.
He holds a Master of Science in Drilling and Well Engineering from Robert Gordon University and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Systems Engineering from the University of Regina.
We extend our immense gratitude to our outgoing president, Joy Romero, whose leadership, dedication and insight over nine years of volunteer service have been instrumental to our success.
“Under Joy’s leadership, CRIN has grown into a network of over 4,600 members, with 150+ volunteers, representing five sectors and seven technology themes,” Board Chair Douglas Freel said during the Annual General Meeting. “Together, we’ve funded 66 clean technology projects across Canada – many of which have advanced through commercialization and into global partnerships.”
“To Joy – thank you for your extraordinary leadership and your vision. To Scott – welcome. We look forward to building on this momentum together.”
We also welcome new directors, Kel Coulson and Shamus Hardie.
Kel Coulson is a sustainability leader with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, with a broad background in environmental policy, strategic planning, and regulatory development, working with diverse stakeholders. As the Director of Policy for Carbon Engineering (CE), Kel leads policy and engagement efforts supporting the integration of carbon dioxide removals into climate policy and sectoral decarbonization strategies.
Shamus Hardie serves as Chair of the WPC Energy Young Professionals Committee, representing young professionals and promoting global cooperation for the sustainable use of energy resources. Professionally, Shamus is a Senior Analyst at Inter Pipeline, working on the Finance Planning and Analytics team with the Heartland petrochemical business.
