Mannville Enhanced Hydrogen Recovery Project

Solution Developer

Cvictus Inc.

Project Description

Cvictus’s initial commercial operations will demonstrate patented Enhanced Hydrogen Recovery (EHR) technology to supply the lowest cost, lowest carbon intensity hydrogen from stranded hydrocarbons in Alberta. With CRIN’s support, this project will produce 7 t/d of clean hydrogen at a lower cost than conventional production and less CO2 than green hydrogen from hydroelectricity.

EHR extracts hydrogen-rich syngas from ultra-deep coal and brine and re-injects associated CO2 back into the same deep seam for permanent geological sequestration, producing clean hydrogen by turning coal ‘from a source to a sink’ of CO2. Our low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen can be used directly (heat, power, transportation), or processed further to produce the ‘greenest blue’ ammonia, methanol, and other chemicals.

Cvictus’s vision is to be ‘the most positively impactful company on the planet through the integration of our low-cost clean energy and biotechnology platforms. This project builds the upstream novel resource extraction and hydrogen production phase of a commercial complex that will later produce methanol and ferment single-cell protein (SCP).
