Well Site Methane Emissions Abatement
Solution Developer
Hydrodine Catalytics Ltd.
Project Description
HydrodineTM provides customers with a fully regulatory compliant system that enables the capture of Offset Carbon Credits. This unique technology eliminates the need for fuel gas while providing heat, power and instrument air.
For the past several decades, heating of separator sheds at remote well sites and other off-grid facilities has been performed using catalytic heaters, which burn raw natural gas produced onsite to generate heat. This system is problematic due to the combustion of non-refined natural gas, resulting in low combustion efficiency, particulates and greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere.
HydrodineTM is a disruptive platform technology that has zero emissions, eliminates the need for fuel gas, lowers CAPEX/OPEX, improves health and safety for frontline workers, and provides power at remote sites. Hydrodine achieves these outcomes by flowing a hydrogen peroxide blend over a proprietary catalyst to produce heat (in the form of steam (pure H2O)) and pure oxygen (samples, as tested by Air Liquide, were 99.9% O2).
Hydrodine uses a fuel cell to produce power to run electrical equipment and a compressor to produce instrument air for pneumatic devices. The Hydrodine solution can replace current catalytic heaters at natural gas well sites. It is approximately the size and shape of existing catalytic heaters, and it can be easily integrated.
Based on both alpha and beta prototype testing, Hydrodine estimates that the catalyst may need to be changed once per year. Replacement is a simple process with the system designed much like the removal and replacement of an oil filter on a car: it can be done within one hour with little to no disruption to operations.
