G4 PCH Biorefinery
Solution Developer
G4 Insights Inc.
Project Description
G4 biorefineries convert lignocellulosic biomass into renewable natural gas (RNG), green H2, green syngas (for FT liquid fuels), biochar CDR (carbon dioxide removals), and CO2 CDR. Potential feed stocks include forestry harvest residue, forest fire prevention biomass removals, agricultural crop waste, woody construction and manufacturing waste, and fuel crops.
G4 PyroCatalytic Hydrogenation (PCH) process employs fast pyrolysis to produce pyrolysis gas and catalysts to convert the pyrolysis gas and added hydrogen into methane. The methane is purified for use as RNG output and as feedstock to a steam methane reformer (SMR) for internal hydrogen production. For green H2 output, all of the RNG is converted into H2 in the SMR. The biorefinery can also be used for power to gas projects to produce RNG from low cost, excess renewable power and biomass. At scale, the G4 biorefinery can convert 750 tonnes/day biomass into 10,000 GJ/day RNG or 82 tonnes/day green H2.The net cost of RNG or green H2 produced can be equal to or less than the cost of fossil natural gas or conventional hydrogen when subsidized by revenue from sale of biochar CDR and sequestered CO2 CDR.
