Event Recap: Enhanced Oil Recovery Lunch & Learn

It was a full house at the ETC Foundation and online for a hybrid event hosted by CRIN on January 14, 2026, about Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).

Rodger Bernar, the tech leader for CRIN’s Novel Hydrocarbon Extraction Theme Group, said that with the recent Canada-Alberta pipeline “grand bargain,” it has reopened EOR as a tool and provides a carrot for the hydrocarbon industry to capture its CO2 emissions and put them to beneficial use in the oil patch.

EOR expert Richard Baker noted that Enhanced Oil Recovery refers to a collection of methods used after both primary and secondary recovery to extract extra oil that would otherwise be trapped in the reservoir or not produced at the economic limit of the recovery process. It involves improvement in displacement efficiency and volumetric efficiency.

The presentation covered three technology areas:

  • CO2
  • polymer, alkaline, and chemicals
  • surfactants and nanoparticles

In addition to Baker, the other presenters were Eric Delamaide, General Manager of IFP Technologies, and Ali Telmadarreie, the CEO and Co-Founder of CNERGREEN Corporation.
