The Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) is pleased to announce that MaRS Discovery District will be the coordinator for CRIN’s Accelerating Cleantech Innovation Competition.
Launching soon, the pan-Canadian competition is supported by $12 million from the Strategic Response Fund. Up to $2 million will be allocated to winning projects for late-stage technologies that deliver measurable environmental and economic benefits across Canada’s oil and gas sector and other hard-to-abate industries.
“The Accelerating Cleantech Innovation Competition reflects CRIN’s commitment to advancing cleaner solutions while supporting the strength of Canada’s energy sector,” says Glen McCrimmon, CRIN Director of Operations. “By focusing on late-stage technologies and requiring industry partnerships, this competition ensures that innovations are ready to scale and deliver meaningful results in oil and gas and other hard-to-abate industries.”
MaRS Discovery District is a charitable organization and North America’s largest urban innovation hub, spanning more than 1.5 million square feet of cutting-edge office, lab, meeting and event space in downtown Toronto across two locations — the MaRS Centre and MaRS Waterfront. With a focus on climate, health sciences, and other emerging technologies, MaRS supports startups tackling some of the world’s most pressing issues.
MaRS has extensive experience running incubation and scaling programs, including cohort-based challenges and innovation competitions, all with the aim of accelerating the adoption of groundbreaking Canadian technology and bolstering a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.
“MaRS is proud to work collaboratively with the Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN) to launch this national competition,” says Tyler Hamilton, Senior Director of Climate at MaRS Discovery District. “With our experience running national innovation competitions and enabling Canadian cleantech companies with the advisory, capital, customers and markets they need to scale, we’re excited to help identify and accelerate late-stage cleantech solutions that are driving measurable emissions reductions across Canada’s energy and industrial sectors.”
MaRS was selected to coordinate the upcoming competition through an RFP process.
